Honesty Without Repercussions
In a world where you could be honest without having to face any consequences- what would be the first thing you’d say, and to whom?
As someone constantly battling with anxiety disorder, I can never seem to shake the feeling that someone somewhere might be thinking about how horrendous I look, how I never know what to do with my arms or how my mere existence ruined the group photo.
Even though I have accepted the fact that these thoughts would always live rent free in the back of my head, there are certain days when I’d wonder- what if people didn’t care about the repercussions of being brutally honest, how would the world turn out to be?
Honesty is the best policy.
It’s a lovely day today, you’re walking down the roads that often escape you from reality, a tunnel in which you’d rather prefer not finding the light when suddenly you’re approached by an old friend of yours. After a series of usual greetings, he says “Mate, I can’t believe I turned out to be the more successful one.” You’re only processing it when you hear his chuckle, “I always thought it’d be you.”
Well, that was weird but could have been worse. In a world where being honest is the only option you have, there would be a lot more people crying to bed every night, lot more people with insecurities and self hatred. More people finding comfort in the thought of not existing, more poverty, unemployment, harassment and wars. Even more of them, realising that the idea of honesty is actually flawed and it might not be the best policy after all.
